Real impact, fully supported

An internship with Dreamers Wish Foundation builds practical, transferable skills and the confidence that comes from doing real work: teaching in a classroom, collecting data that shapes a program, helping a small business grow. You will actively contribute to projects the community asked for, and you will come home with career clarity and a certificate that proves your hours.

Not sure which track is right for you? There are two ways to start:

  • Cohort track: starts July 21, 2027. Travel to Ghana with our Solidarity Trip group, settle in together, share the cultural trips, then continue your placement for the rest of your stay.
  • Flexible track: start on your own date in summer 2027. The same placements, host families and support, on a calendar that fits your school or work.

Whichever you choose, we handle the logistics on the ground: your host family, three meals a day, daily transport, airport pickup in Accra and a Ghana team on call around the clock, so you can focus on the work and the people.

Programs for every stage of life

People join us at every stage, so if you are looking for something shaped to where you are, start here:

  • Ghana Solidarity Trip: our guided group journey, July 21 to 31, 2027, for anyone who wants to serve, learn and travel with the team first, and intern another season.

Intern FAQ

Questions, answered.

Everything interns ask us before applying. Still curious? Ask us.

Who can apply?

High school, college and graduate students, and recent graduates. Tell us your age and school in your application. We'll explain any age requirements for travel during your interview.

Where in Ghana will I be?

With our partner schools and community in the Mepe and Dadome area of the Volta Region, including Dadome DA Basic School. Our internships are in Ghana for summer 2027. A few roles, like Robotics Teacher, are also open in Salt Lake City, Utah.

How long are internships?

Internships run 2 to 8 weeks, in person in Ghana in summer 2027:

  • 2 weeks: the minimum stay, a focused placement on one project team.
  • 3 to 8 weeks: the full placement, with your own project and a mentor. Best for school requirements and academic credit.

Every intern earns a certificate of service that lists their hours.

You can also pair an internship with our Ghana 2027 trip (July 21 to 31, 2027).

What does it cost, and what's included?

Prices are published in full. Two weeks costs $2,795 on the education, enterprise and operations tracks, $3,095 on the health and wellbeing track, or $3,195 on the specialist tracks (law and human rights, renewable energy, conservation, and the graduate-level design and technology innovation internship). Each extra week is $550, so 8 weeks runs $6,095 to $6,495 depending on your track.

Every price includes a vetted host family in Mepe, three meals a day, clean drinking water, airport pickup and drop-off in Accra, daily transport to your placement, 24/7 support from our Ghana team, project materials, cultural trips, and a certificate of service with your hours. Flights, your Ghana visa fee and travel and medical insurance are not included. Your exact total is confirmed in writing at acceptance, before you commit to anything.

Can I earn academic credit?

Yes. Longer placements (3 to 8 weeks) can be shaped to your program's requirements: add them to your application, and we'll work with your school on supervision, hours and evaluations. Every intern earns a certificate of service that lists their hours, and a reference letter when they finish.

Can my university fund my internship?

Many universities offer grants for summer service and internships. Ask your career or global programs office. Once you're accepted, we can provide a letter and a project description for your funding application.

Do I need to speak a local language?

No. English is Ghana's official language, and our local team is with you. Ewe is widely spoken in the Volta Region, and we'll teach you a few greetings. People love it when you try!

What travel documents and health steps do I need?

For Ghana you'll need a passport that's valid for at least 6 months, a Ghana visa and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Visit a travel clinic early to ask about other vaccines and malaria prevention. We'll send a pre-travel checklist after you're accepted.

How will I be supported and kept safe?

You'll complete our changemaker orientation, follow our safeguarding rules and have a mentor and regular check-ins. Our in-country team helps with day-to-day logistics. We'll also share our safety guidance and what travel insurance you'll need.

Can I do medical, legal or counseling work?

Only within your training and license. Clinical care is supervised by licensed local professionals. Law interns don't give legal advice, and wellbeing interns don't provide therapy. Instead, everyone learns how to refer concerns to qualified local partners.

Can I teach remotely?

Not yet. Remote teaching is coming soon. Choose Remote teaching (waitlist) in the form below and we'll email you as soon as it opens.

Is a background check required?

Yes, for any role that involves working with children.

What happens after I apply?

We review applications on a rolling basis and email you to set up a short video call. If it's a good fit, we'll go over your role, dates and costs, then send your acceptance letter, orientation and pre-travel checklist.
