Apply for this internshipWho can apply?
High school, college and graduate students, and recent graduates. Tell us your age and school in your application. We'll explain any age requirements for travel during your interview.
Where in Ghana will I be?
With our partner schools and community in the Mepe and Dadome area of the Volta Region, including Dadome DA Basic School. Our internships are in Ghana for summer 2027. A few roles, like Robotics Teacher, are also open in Salt Lake City, Utah.
How long are internships?
Choose one of two tracks, both in person in Ghana in summer 2027:
- 1-week Field Experience: you earn a certificate of completion that lists your hours.
- 3-month Internship: eligible for academic credit, following our 3-month plan.
You can also pair an internship with our Ghana 2027 trip (July 21 to 31, 2027).
What does it cost, and what's included?
It depends on how long you stay and what's included, such as housing, meals and local transport. We share a clear, written cost breakdown at your interview, before you commit to anything.
Can I earn academic credit?
Yes, with the 3-month Internship. Add your program's requirements to your application, and we'll work with your school on supervision, hours and evaluations. The 1-week Field Experience earns a certificate of completion that lists your hours. Every intern also gets a reference letter when they finish.
Can my university fund my internship?
Many universities offer grants for summer service and internships. Ask your career or global programs office. Once you're accepted, we can provide a letter and a project description for your funding application.
Do I need to speak a local language?
No. English is Ghana's official language, and our local team is with you. Ewe is widely spoken in the Volta Region, and we'll teach you a few greetings. People love it when you try!
What travel documents and health steps do I need?
For Ghana you'll need a passport that's valid for at least 6 months, a Ghana visa and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Visit a travel clinic early to ask about other vaccines and malaria prevention. We'll send a pre-travel checklist after you're accepted.
How will I be supported and kept safe?
You'll complete our volunteer orientation, follow our safeguarding rules and have a mentor and regular check-ins. Our in-country team helps with day-to-day logistics. We'll also share our safety guidance and what travel insurance you'll need.
Can I do medical, legal or counseling work?
Only within your training and license. Clinical care is supervised by licensed local professionals. Law interns don't give legal advice, and wellbeing interns don't provide therapy. Instead, everyone learns how to refer concerns to qualified local partners.
Can I teach remotely?
Not yet. Remote teaching is coming soon. Choose Remote teaching (waitlist) in the form below and we'll email you as soon as it opens.
Is a background check required?
Yes, for any role that involves working with children.
What happens after I apply?
We review applications on a rolling basis and email you to set up a short video call. If it's a good fit, we'll go over your role, dates and costs, then send your acceptance letter, orientation and pre-travel checklist.
